just bringing this back up until signing day
did anyone see the advertisement for KB Hutchinson during the game. The "hookem horns" over the bridge was laughable, but as a possible interest to the discussion going on here.

This is a much better story. Researched, weighing the pros and cons, and just not based on what some east-coast writer thinks.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/colleges/story/1704959.html
The Big 12 commish pissed a lot of Missourian off when he said a few weeks ago, "Why would Missouri want to leave the Big 12, when they've got great rivalries with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech" now?
Oklahoma State and Texas Tech? He doesn't get it.

Oklahoma State and Texas Tech? He doesn't get it.
I agree it is a better written story with sources and information (all of which has been brought up on this thread I might add), but it is still from a Missouri perspective.
That Missouri would be so willing is understandable, frankly after looking at the money, they would be stupid not to go. If the SEC offered A&M a slot, I would think they would be stupid not to go. once again for the money.
I noticed that academics weren't brought up in the article.
The real question is who does the Big 10 want after ND? I don't think y'all are necessarily the bride, but you are certainly in the wedding.
The other question is will they take 3 and who would it be and would the SEC respond or the ACC and PAC.
ND contract is good for another 5 years so I don't think they are really thinking about it, but maybe after that maybe they work a deal especially if ND keeps losing.

I think A&M might recruit much better in Texas if they were in a different conference than UT.
It would offer them some real alternatives.
If it came down to a BigXII or SEC decision that would make some interesting recruiting.

My main point is it would benefit A&M to get away from Texas and be in another conference
another major conference
Most of the perceived differences between UT & A&M are pretty subjective but put them in different conferences and you have something tangible.
With a different major conference A&M has more opportunities where UT isn't even considered an option.

I agree austeer, but splitting up A&M and tu would split up the TV sets in Texas, look at Mizzou, they are the only school in the state but both of their major cities are border towns, if they left the Big 12 could they bring both towns with them? maybe not.
A&M & tu could bring Houston & Dallas & San Antonio
OU & Ok State could say they bring Dallas, there are so darn many of them here.
but together A&M and tu control the TV sets of Texas, apart not so much.

I think as long as they're not playing at the same time you get a lot of people watching both.
I would have no problem rooting for A&M to smoke any SEC team. If UT wasn't playing at the same time I'd watch them too. A lot of people would find a way to watch both.
I think there are enough TVs to go around.
Not trying to run you off and into the SEC
Just thinking...or trying to...a lot of times nothing happens...nothing good anyway

LOL at Sidis. He will believe anything that looks shiny.
The Big Ten is going to take 18 MONTHS to look at expansion. Just because Pitt says its No. 1 doesn't make it true.

You know, I thought about it, and I can't remember the last time I've bet outside of a work pool.
So the answer's no, Sidis.
I don't care enough about being "right" to bet money that you would have to change to Euros anyway.
I will, however, be here the day the Big Ten invites MU over Pitt. Then I will be on a Big Ten board.

Texas needs to form a new conference and invite all the Pac-10 teams to join it.

It's really nothing new. They said the same thing when the SWC fell apart. I would think CU would still be the logical fit, but it wouldn't shock me to see them make a play for UT or A&M. That was discussed back in the day, at least in the media.
But look who's being pro-active, and who is being passive in this scenario. Instead of the Big 12 muscling up, now it's suddenly open season.
P.S. I've seen some Texas tards, perhaps in this thread (I'm too lazy to check), that say, "well, we lose a team, we'll get Arkansas back." Why the hell would Arkansas come to the Big 12 for much less money than they are making now? Based on the current SEC and Big 12 TV contracts, ARKANSAS GETS MORE MONEY THAN TEXAS.

Congrats on the first coherent post ever. Big 12 needs to act now and head off the blowhards. I agree on one team from utah, but why not make a play for Boise - Sure not a big market, but you still get some hangers.

and by the way dipshit, name one person in this thread that said anything remotely close to arkansas would come back to the big 12 if mizzou left. in fact, i seem to remember this post:

arkansas is not leaving the sec though so forget it. espn just paid them all a zillion dollars.

about as accurate as an article from a Missouri paper.
the have's in the Big 12 as far as I can tell
#1) tu
#2) OU
#3) NU
#4)A&M
#5) MU
#6) KU
#7) CU
SEC shoots first takes OU A&M tu and MU\OSU
Big 10 takes MU or KU,MU,NU to get to 14
Pac 10 takes CU, tu, BYU\Utah\A&M or just 2
ACC strikes and takes some Big East causing the Big 10 to strike
Norte Dame joins the Big 10
Big 10 takes tu
Big 10 raids Big East
tu goes independent (I don't see that)

Based on the current SEC and Big 12 TV contracts, ARKANSAS GETS MORE MONEY THAN TEXAS.
missou this is a game changer because the time table has been set
Quote
"It is really over the next six to 12 months that we'll start having serious analysis and serious evaluations," Scott said.
While there has been major upheaval in conference alignments in recent years, the Pac-10 has remained stable for more than three decades. But with a new commissioner and television deals that expire following the 2011-12 academic year, the time is ripe for a fresh look at the issue.
vs 18 months for the Big 10 expansion
you are right about one thing, who is being proactive? Missouri is wishing\praying for the Big 10,
KSU, TT, Baylor, ISU and OSU are hoping to stay in a conference that matters
tu is trying to start their own "Longhorn Network"
as far as I can tell NU A&M OU KU and CU are clueless.
The chips are going to fall sooner rather than later
and these are the real chips not just a MNC or conference championship but the future of relevance in college football.
good luck to you dip shits I know A&M will land somewhere that is okay at least

OH MY GOSH!!! THE BIG 10 WANTS TEXAS LIKE SUPER BAD BECAUSE WE'RE SO PISSED OFF AT THE REST OF YOU AND YOUR SUCKNESS AND NO MONEY AND SHIT TOWNS WITH CRAPPY ACADEMIC SCHOOLS!!!!!!!
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2010/feb/11/big-ten-making-overtures-texas/?sports
just stfu already and end this stupid ass thread. pitt will go to the big 10, and some combination of byu/fresno/utah/whothefuckknows will go to the pac-10.
period. if the big 12 wants some tv money, then nebraska is going to have to continue its rise to consistent winning that grabs the nation's attention again, tamu is going to have to improve significantly from its current place, and texas/ou have to maintain the spots they've held for the decade.
THEN the big 12 becomes a highly attractive money making machine. the fact of the matter is that right now, texas/ou is the only game in the conference that competes for attention with any game pitting florida/georgia/tennessee/alabama/auburn/lsu against each other. sorry that's just the way it is right now. nobody cares about missouri vs. kansas state. even if they're good, they just don't care. i really like both those teams so i wish people did care but they can't compete. and frankly, the big 10 has a time zone advantage that allows them to tie up the espn 11am games with no alternatives so anyone that wants to watch cfb for the first three hours of the day on saturday has to watch some shit matchup between michigan/ohiostate/purdue/minnesota/indiana/pennst/whothefuckcares so espn locked them all up.
so there it is. you want to up the ante, the schools that people will watch (texas, oklahoma, nebraska, texas a&m) have to be playing at a high level at the same time.
if mizzou can get an offer from the big 10, then hell yeah take it. money alone...not to mention becoming infinitely more competitive in the big 3 sports.
but they won't.

hell sidis most of the time you are sensible even knowledgeable but this time you are just plain wrong.
the Big 12 is at this point, as vulnerable as the SWC was in the late 80s, no one knew that arkansas was gonna leave even Arkansas until they did.
this time the writing is on the wall, the Big 12 is dead if the Pac 10 gets a big enough TV contract or if the Big 10 expands.
any defections sets the dominos in motion and tu and A&M will have to move again.
Missou doesn't seem to understand that the key factor will be the Texas Governor election.

If the Big XII fails, I'm afraid KSU will get stuck playing with themselves.

Yeah fuckin' right.
the WAC did it for years (ie Hawaii) and the money is much much more.
tu is the only one at this point who has nothing to worry about
they have enough power and fan base they could go anywhere they want except for one thing

If we get stuck by ourselves Hook'em, that only means good news for you guys and no automatic losses. Plus your QB's will stay healthier. I can see where you'd be happy.

uh oh, mizzou's journalistic sources aren't going to like this...
Quote
So, if all of the Big 12 schools could be theoretically up for grabs, why the heck would the Big Ten go after a minnow (Missouri) when it could get a whale (Texas) instead? Why the heck would the Big Ten take Missouri or even Nebraska and let Texas possibly walk off to the much less financially powerful Pac-10? Why the heck would Texas just let a middle tier school like Missouri leaving for another conference put its future in limbo? Simply put, if a decent-but-not-great school like Missouri leaving could have that much of a potential impact on the Big 12, then that’s clearly evidence that the conference is unstable and maybe a powerhouse school like Texas will understand that it needs to start evaluating more stable options (if it hasn’t already). This presents a monster opportunity for the Big Ten to swoop in and solidify its place as the nation’s most powerful sports conference.
clearly an ego stroke piece directed at texas. i stand by my previous comments. this is all a bunch of theoretical non-sense that will not come to fruition. texas doesn't need the big 10 network money. and texas is not going to go play tuesday night tennis matches against penn state and wisconsin. baseball? track? hell, the only secondary sports that the big 10 could bring it in is wrestling and we don't do that shit. joe castiglione and deloss have been friends for a long time and were the primary architects of the big 12. they've withstood all the fucking whiny shit from nebraska and half of the rest of the big 8 and created a pretty good conference. like i said earlier, tv contracts will only come when corn, tamu, and colorado start competing at a high level again and start bringing in national appeal. even if ku, isu, ksu, mizzou, tech, or baylor won every national championship for the next ten years, it would do nothing for the conference in terms of appeal. that's what has to happen...that, and considerably better/stronger leadership at the top. get rid of these old big 8 dipshits and put a texas guy in there to go take no prisoners with espn/abc.
the ONLY way i could see this ever getting any real traction from texas's perspective is if powers gets fired up about the academic implications. in that regard, it is a considerably better fit. given the cooperative academic nature of the big 10 schools, texas would stand to gain a lot on that front that the big 12 somewhat lacks. save for state political figures, powers is the ultimate decision maker here. but he's going to listen to deloss and i just don't see deloss being the least bit fired up about the big freaking 10.
